John Huebler, CFRE Named 2020 AFP Chicago President's Award Recipient
AFP Chicago is proud to present the 2020 President's Award to John Huebler, CFRE. John will receive the President's Award during our December 4th Annual Meeting. His service and leadership to the chapter and the fundraising profession have been exemplary and have made him a respected figure in Chicagoland fundraising. His foresight and commitment to AFP's ideals have played a significant role in AFP Chicago's continued success.

AFP Chicago White Fundraisers Advocating for Racial Equity (WFARE) Affinity Group

November Virtual Workshop
Harnessing the Power of Storytelling: Advice for 2020 and Beyond

COVID-19 has created a plethora of issues for fundraising teams; however, from major challenges came innovative new ways for fundraisers to communicate the importance of continuing (and growing!) their support. There’s no stronger way to promote the mission of your organization than by sharing the stories of those who have been impacted by your work, especially while the pandemic has brought new challenges to both your donors and those you serve.

In this presentation, we will offer guidance for identifying these stories, as well as empowering and equipping every member of your organization to help fill your “story reserve.” We’ll address how – during times like these – you can use stories to compel and inspire your donors. By providing actionable advice on how to adapt stories for a variety of audiences and media, we will help you convey to your donors the outcomes and impact of their giving. Our panel of experts will provide insight into how they’ve weathered the storm and brought their donors even closer to their mission within the context of the pandemic. This program is approved for 1 CFRE point.

Third Thursday Networking

On Thursday, November 19 at 5pm, we’ll reflect on a year that brought extraordinary challenges to our fundraising profession and look forward to 2021. What are you thankful for? And what New Year’s resolutions/hopes do you have? These can be professional or personal ideas. And, as always, if you have any general fundraising issues you’d like to discuss, please submit them in advance of November 19.

One of the membership benefits of AFP Chicago is the opportunity to participate in the Peer Mentoring Program. This program, offered twice a year, matches seasoned fundraisers who have a minimum of five years of development experience with individuals with less than five years of development experience.
When I learned about the Peer Mentoring Committee and the opportunity to become engaged, I was intrigued. I went in search of more information and decided to get involved. I was happy to join the Committee and signed up to be a Peer Mentor! Here’s what I learned…
WHAT IS PEER MENTORING?
Peer mentoring is a form of mentorship that usually takes place between a person who has lived through a specific experience (the mentor) and a person who is newer to that experience (the protégé).
A peer mentor is an individual with extensive professional experience that fosters the development and growth of a less experienced individual. While a peer mentor might offer tools, advice, and training, it is up to the protégé to absorb and apply these teachings on a regular basis. Learn more.
